December is so Saturday. So much time off work, everyone’s vacationing, schools are out for at least half the month, families come together in union to celebrate and carry out traditions. It’s the one time a year that whether you’re active (busy gift shopping, catching flights, having snow fights, picking up family from the airport) or taking it easy (indoors, keeping warm, lounging in pajamas, excitedly decorating), you’re doing December exactly right. Time both picks up and slows down and there’s no right or wrong way to do it. It’s the best of both worlds and because this occurrence is such a rarity, it really does feel like the most wonderful time of the year.

Then Christmas day happens, and the next few days are a lazy blur until we all reconvene again in the shared joy of New Year’s Eve and bringing in the new year. all the excitement, optimism, and celebration is palpable. Society is so rarely on the same page throughout the year, but Christmas and the new year often feel effortlessly unifying. It’s the weekend man. and it’s a great one.

Finally, the gravity of January officially settles in, as Mondays inevitably do, and it’s back to business as usual until we all meet again in eleven months next weekend.
